Restaurants in L’Aquila

I am recommending one restaurant right in the heart of the city center and another one that is located slightly outside of the heart of the city. Both restaurants are quite elegant, a step up from a neighborhood trattoria, but they still feature regional classics in addition to more innovative options.

Egg and Truffle at Connubio

Egg and Truffle at Connubio

This restaurant was delightful. There was attention to detail in the presentation of fresh and seasonal food, and everything we tried was delicious. This antipasto dish was a creative interpretation of the regional classic, pallotte cace e ove. This dish featured a perfectly runny egg with crispy bread shaved with truffle on top. The menu changes with the season and the chef’s inspirations but here are some ideas.

Recommended Dishes

Antipasto- Antipasto di Connubio (they will bring you a selection of seasonal and regional dishes)

Primo - Any pasta dish, all involved surprising but delicious flavors. The Chitarrina rosa con pallottine di salsiccia nostrana e pecorino di campostoso (thin red chitarra pasta with sausage and pecorino)

Secondo- We went for lunch so we did not indulge in a second, but many look delicious, especially the coniglio

Il Baco da Seta

This restaurant was a part of the hotel complex, La Dimora Del Baco, which is where we stayed in L’Aquila. The hotel is quite new (built in the last ten years), and although the location is just off of a rather busy, not so picturesque, roadway on the outskirts of the city, so it does not feel 4 star until you get inside the gates. You drive down a cypress-lined path to reach the front of the hotel. The hotel is modern and clean with lovely rooms at a reasonable price point, and the restaurant is located in a lovely converted house just behind the hotel. With a cozy romantic feel, this restaurant specializes in seafood but also serves land based regional classics and has an impressive wine list.

Recommended Dishes

Antipasto- Mixed seafood starter

The mixed seafood antipasti platter

The mixed seafood antipasti platter

Primo- Any of the seafood pastas preferably with the regional Spaghetti alla chitarra for the type of pasta

Secondo- Any fresh seafood dish

Dolci- You can’t go wrong with the Chocolate souffle
